Santa Clara County Extends Existing Evacuation Warning Zone to Include Bloomfield Avenue Area in South County

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jan. 14, 2023

Heavy Rains, Strong Winds, Flooding, Falling Trees, Power Outages, and Shallow Mudslides Are All Possible Dangers

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. – The County of Santa Clara extended existing evacuation warnings to include community members residing in the watershed areas along Bloomfield Avenue Area – between Highways 25 and 152, and south of Bloomfield Avenue to the County line – due to the weather conditions and potential risks of flooding to the general public and property.

The prior evacuation warning zone is being expanded due to two levy breaches in San Benito County adjacent to the expanded zone area in Santa Clara County, and the risk that water overnight may continue to encroach into Santa Clara County from the levy breaks.

AREAS UNDER EVACUATION WARNING:

The existing evacuation warning zone established on Friday, January 13th has been expanded to include:

  • Bloomfield Avenue between highways 25 and 152 and south of Bloomfield Avenue to the County line

Community members living in these areas should gather their household members, pets, personal items, important documents, prescription medications, change of clothes, non-perishable foods, water, extra batteries, flashlights, and phone chargers. They should be prepared to evacuate to a safe location.

The San Martin Lion’s Club located at 12415 Murphy Ave in San Martin, CA 95949 is open now for community members displaced by the winter storm. This shelter is accessible, and all service animals are welcomed.

Community members are also encouraged to stay off the roads, creek beds, waterways and fast moving waters. For more information on the winter storm event, please go to www.PrepareSCC.org/Flood.
